Joyalukkas breaks two Guinness World Records with world’s heaviest and largest pair of gold earrings
Record breaking gold earrings unveiled by UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism at Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas in Dubai Gold District
Joyalukkas Jewellery has entered the Guinness World Records with two titles, ‘Heaviest pair of gold earrings’ and ‘Largest pair of earrings’, for a handcrafted pair of gold jhumkas.
The record breaking earrings were unveiled by His Excellency Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, at Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas, located in Dubai Gold District and described as the biggest jewellery destination in the Middle East.
Two records, one creation
Named Mayura Sahasra, meaning ‘A Thousand Peacocks’, the earrings draw inspiration from the peacock, India’s symbol of grace, pride and divine beauty. The design reflects the plumage of a thousand peacocks, brought together in a single creation.
The traditional bell shaped gold jhumkas, associated with South Asian bridal heritage, were handcrafted over several months by Joyalukkas’ master artisans. The combined net gold weight of the 22 carat earrings is 16.514 kg, more than five times the previous world record. Both records were verified by Guinness World Records.
The earrings will be preserved as a complete pair and displayed permanently at the Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas showroom.
Unveiling ceremony
The earrings were unveiled on Saturday, October 24, at Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas in Dubai Gold District in the presence of Ms. Laila Mohd Suhail, Member of Dubai Golden Jewellery Group, Chair of the Marketing Committee and former CEO of the Strategic Alliances and Partnerships Sector at Dubai Tourism and Economy; Mr. Rashid Alharmoodi, Senior Director of Commercial at Dubai Gold District; Mr. Levy Pezulu, Senior Policy Lead at the World Gold Council; Dr. Joy Alukkas, Chairman of Joyalukkas Group; Mr. John Paul Alukkas, CEO of Joyalukkas Jewellery; members of the Joyalukkas family and other dignitaries.
An official Guinness World Records adjudicator presented certificates for both titles to Dr. Joy Alukkas and Mr. John Paul Alukkas in the presence of His Excellency Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, invited guests, media and influencers from across the region.
