Kuwait school administration suspended for three months over suffocation incident

New administration appointed as investigation into female students’ incident continues

The Ministry of Education has suspended the administration of a secondary school for three months pending investigation following an incident in which several female students suffered from suffocation.

Education Minister Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabai visited the affected students to check on their health and well-being, stressing that student safety remains the Ministry’s top priority. He directed continued monitoring of their condition and coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure they receive the necessary care.

The Minister also ordered the appointment of a new school administration to manage the school during the suspension period, oversee its operations and ensure the stability and continuity of the educational process. The Ministry said initial investigations confirmed the involvement of several female students in the incident.

Educational and disciplinary measures have consequently been taken against those found involved, in accordance with the Ministry’s regulatory framework, after their proven conduct was classified as serious behavioral violations. The investigation remains ongoing to establish the full causes and circumstances of the incident and determine responsibility.

The Ministry stressed that action will be taken against anyone found responsible or negligent in accordance with applicable regulations and the final findings of the investigation. The Ministry said the measures are intended to protect students, maintain school stability and reinforce discipline and accountability, stressing that it will not tolerate conduct that threatens the security of the school community or the safety of its members.

It also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health and its medical teams for their rapid response, treatment and follow-up of the affected students. The Ministry reaffirmed that the safety of students, teachers and administrative staff is a fundamental responsibility and said it will continue monitoring the case until all investigations and procedures are completed.
