Kuwait raids shop changing country-of-origin labels on used equipment
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has shut down a commercial shop accused of refurbishing used air-conditioning compressors and altering their country-of-origin labels in an attempt to mislead consumers and gain unlawful profits.
The ministry’s emergency inspection teams from Farwaniya and Jahra governorates raided the facility after discovering that used compressors were being repainted and refurbished, with their original origin markings removed and replaced with false labels carrying different origin information.
According to the ministry, the practice was intended to exploit price differences between products from various origins, potentially misleading customers and violating consumer protection regulations.
Inspection teams seized 776 used compressors found inside the shop, while the necessary legal procedures were initiated against the violator.
The regulatory authorities ordered the immediate closure of the shop and referred the case to the competent authorities for further legal action.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry reaffirmed that inspection campaigns will continue across markets and commercial establishments to detect violations, prevent fraudulent practices, and protect consumers’ rights.
