Kuwait’s top court confirms jail terms for two Kuwaitis in ISIS case
The Court of Cassation has upheld the four-year prison sentences issued against two Kuwaiti citizens convicted of joining ISIS, the terrorist organization and committing offenses affecting national security.
The ruling, issued by a panel headed by Judge Mohammed Al-Khalaf.
According to the case file, the first defendant, a Ministry of Defense serviceman, was charged with joining ISIS, harming the country’s national interests, and misusing a communication device.
The second defendant faced charges of publicly insulting the Amir and the Emirate authority through TikTok, inciting the first accused, an armed forces member, to rebel and undermine national interests, and misusing communication technology.
Court records indicated that the second accused was previously involved in terrorism-related and weapons training cases. He had also travelled to Syria to participate in fighting, according to statements and confessions attributed to him, before being handed over to Kuwait by the Syrian authorities.
The Court of Cassation’s decision makes the four-year prison sentences final, reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to addressing crimes related to terrorism, national security, and threats to public order.
