450 Indonesian nurses support Kuwait’s healthcare system, says Ambassador Maryana

Indonesian envoy praises Kuwait’s crisis management, healthcare preparedness, says over 1,000 have applied to work in Kuwait amid rising healthcare demand

The Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Lena Maryana has highlighted the vital role played by Indonesian nurses in supporting Kuwait’s healthcare system, praising their professionalism and humanitarian commitment, particularly during times of crisis and exceptional circumstances.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a celebration marking International Nurses Day and Labor Day, organized by the Indonesian Nurses Association in Kuwait in cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy, Ambassador Maryana said around 450 Indonesian nurses are currently working in Kuwait, with additional groups arriving since last year.

She disclosed more than 1,000 Indonesian nurses have applied to work in Kuwait through the direct recruitment system approved by Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, stressing that all applicants are subject to the selection and evaluation standards set by Kuwaiti health authorities.

The ambassador explained since 2021, the Indonesian Embassy has been working to strengthen healthcare cooperation with Kuwaiti authorities, including discussions on signing a memorandum of understanding to regulate the recruitment of Indonesian nursing professionals as Kuwait continues to expand its healthcare workforce under the framework of Kuwait Vision 2035.

Maryana praised Kuwait’s high level of preparedness and organization in managing crises, particularly within the healthcare sector. She noted that Indonesian nurses saw firsthand the rapid response and strong coordination between official authorities and medical teams during the recent challenging periods.

She also commended the dedication and professionalism shown by Indonesian nurses in carrying out their humanitarian and medical duties, affirming their continued commitment to supporting Kuwait’s healthcare sector with responsibility and sincerity.

On another note, the ambassador highlighted that the Indonesian community in Kuwait includes highly qualified professionals working across several sectors, including oil and gas, hospitality, and various industries. She went on to say Indonesia possesses a large pool of skilled workers capable of meeting the demands of Kuwait’s labor market.

According to Maryana, the Indonesian community in Kuwait numbers around 6,800 residents. She emphasized that the embassy remains committed to closely monitoring their welfare and addressing any issues they may face in coordination with the relevant Kuwaiti authorities.
