Heroin smugglers caught in Kuwaiti waters sentenced to death

The Kuwaiti Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Nayef Al-Dahoum, has sentenced four Iranian nationals to death for smuggling 350 kilograms of hashish and psychotropic substances from Iran’s Abadan region into Kuwait.

According to Al-Rai daily the arrest followed a coordinated ambush by Kuwait’s Anti-Narcotics Department and Coast Guard.

During the trial, the defendants confessed to the charges, admitting they were heroin addicts.

They told the court that they left Abadan by boat after loading it with various drugs. The boat, approximately 21 feet long, had been rented by a local fishing community, though the smugglers claimed they did not know the owner personally.

The men explained that they followed a mapped route to Kuwaiti waters, where they were supposed to deliver the drugs to a Kuwaiti contact. They were promised payment upon successful delivery and return to Iran.

However, their plan was thwarted when they were intercepted and arrested before completing the handover.
