Kuwait and Egypt have reaffirmed the depth of their longstanding defence and diplomatic ties, with senior officials from both countries highlighting a shared history of solidarity, military cooperation and mutual support during a ceremony marking the 53rd anniversary of Egypt’s October Victory.
Organised by the Egyptian Defence Office in Kuwait, the event brought together Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Mohamed Jaber Abou El Wafa, Kuwait’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence Sheikh Dr Abdullah Meshaal Al Sabah, Kuwait Air Force Commander Major General Pilot Fahad Al Khuraing, and Egypt’s Defence Attaché to Kuwait Colonel Mohamed Abdel Wahed Abdel Gawad, alongside diplomats, military representatives, public figures and members of the Egyptian community.
The ceremony underscored how the historical bonds forged between the two countries continue to underpin their military partnership and diplomatic engagement, with both sides stressing the importance of cooperation, the exchange of expertise and a shared commitment to peace and regional stability.

Addressing the gathering, Major General Pilot Fahad Al-Khurainej described Kuwait-Egypt relations as an enduring model of Arab solidarity, founded on brotherhood, loyalty and a shared destiny. He highlighted the longstanding cooperation between the two countries and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Egyptian and Kuwaiti military personnel in defence of their homelands.
Military cooperation built on a shared history
He said October 6 remains a landmark in Egypt’s history and that of the Arab world, commemorating the courage of the Egyptian armed forces and the sacrifices of those who gave their lives to protect national territory, dignity and sovereignty. Highlighting the practical dimension of bilateral defence relations, Al Khuraing pointed to the joint Yarmouk military exercise as a prominent example of cooperation between the Kuwait Air Force and the Egyptian armed forces.
The exercise, he said, reflects the enduring legacy of the Kuwaiti Yarmouk Brigade and its martyrs, who fought alongside Egyptian forces during the October War. Their shared sacrifices remain a powerful reminder of the military solidarity that has long connected the two countries.

The historical significance of Kuwait’s support for Egypt was also central to the address by Colonel Abdel Jawad, who said the backing extended by Kuwait’s leadership, government and people during the war represented far more than a temporary political position. It embodied the depth of the countries’ historical and fraternal relationship.
He recalled the participation of Kuwaiti fighters alongside their Egyptian counterparts on the battlefield, describing their sacrifices as a defining expression of Arab unity and a lasting chapter in the shared history of the two nations. The defence attaché said the October Victory demonstrated Egypt’s determination, the resilience of its people and the capabilities of its armed forces in achieving national objectives and restoring the country’s territory.
He paid tribute to the Egyptian military personnel who fought to recover the nation’s land and dignity, as well as the leaders who made the historic decision to cross the Suez Canal, particularly former Egyptian President Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat. Abdel Jawad also stressed that the Egyptian armed forces remain integral to the nation, drawing their strength from the people while carrying the responsibility of protecting the country’s security, territory and borders.

Sustaining defence ties through expertise and coordination
Moving beyond the historical dimension, Abdel Gawad emphasised the importance of maintaining military cooperation and exchanging expertise to advance the shared interests of Kuwait and Egypt. He said the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation demonstrated the value of strengthening confidence and mutual understanding, while supporting efforts to promote peace and confront violence and extremism across the region.
The remarks placed defence cooperation within the wider context of the two countries’ diplomatic relationship, highlighting the importance of sustained engagement as regional security challenges become increasingly complex.
Abdel Gawad said developments in the Middle East required responsible coordination among countries to address common concerns, restore regional security and strengthen stability. He called for a comprehensive understanding of security that respects the circumstances of individual societies and nations and rejects interference in the internal affairs of states.
Reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to peaceful relations, the defence attaché said the country that fought to recover its territory also remained committed to peace, cooperation and development. He stressed that lasting security cannot be achieved through national efforts alone, but requires cooperation among states, mutual understanding, the exchange of experience, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and non-interference in domestic affairs.
He also highlighted the contribution of Arab countries to Egypt during the October War, noting that support extended beyond the military sphere to include political, economic and strategic assistance. In this context, the anniversary served as a reminder of the role collective Arab support played during a defining period in Egypt’s history and the continuing importance of cooperation in addressing shared regional challenges.
Concluding his remarks, Abdel Jawad expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s continued openness, transparency and cooperation with the Egyptian Defence Office. He reaffirmed the commitment to carrying forward the longstanding partnership between the two countries and wished the Arab peoples continued peace, security and stability.
The anniversary gathering highlighted the enduring foundations of Kuwait-Egypt relations: a history of mutual support, military cooperation and diplomatic engagement, coupled with a shared emphasis on sovereignty, regional stability and peaceful coexistence.
