
Bollywood veteran Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa on Thursday morning, October 8.
According to the reports provided, the actor was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula and rushed to Manipal Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the death to local media. Doctors were said to have attempted resuscitation for approximately 45 minutes before declaring him dead at around 5:20 am.
Patekar, one of Indian cinema’s most distinctive performers, built a career spanning more than four decades, earning widespread recognition for his intense acting style, powerful dialogue delivery and memorable performances in Hindi and Marathi films.
He made his Hindi film debut in Muzaffar Ali’s Gaman in 1978 and went on to appear in films including Ankush, Pratighaat, Andha Yudh and Salaam Bombay!.
His breakthrough came with Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda (1989), in which he portrayed the ruthless gangster Anna. The performance earned him the National Film Award and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Patekar subsequently made his directorial debut with Prahaar: The Final Attack and delivered notable performances in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Angaar and Tirangaa.
His portrayal of Pratap Narayan Tilak in Krantiveer (1994) earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor, while his performance in Agni Sakshi (1996) brought him another National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
In recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema and the arts, Patekar was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013.
Across generations, he remained a respected figure in Indian cinema, celebrated for his versatility and commanding screen presence.
His most recent screen appearance was in Subedaar, released on Prime Video in 2026, alongside Anil Kapoor and Radhikka Madan.
Hospital officials said a medico-legal case had been registered and a post-mortem examination would be conducted.
