Trump says US representatives heading to Pakistan for Iran talks

US president threatens to 'knock out' Iranian power plants and bridges if no deal is reached

President Donald Trump says a US delegation is heading to Pakistan for negotiations with Iran, with about two days remaining in the two countries’ tenuous ceasefire agreement. Tehran has not immediately confirmed the plans.

Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire with its actions in the Strait of Hormuz, the vital waterway where Tehran has once again blocked the passage of most ships, alleging US “breaches of trust.” Traffic remains paralyzed in the strait Sunday, and a tanker and container ship reported attacks yesterday

The US and Iran have a long way to go before reaching an agreement, Iran’s parliament speaker told state media in an interview that seemed aimed at appeasing both the political elite and hardliners. Both countries have the will to continue talks, but a number of points of disagreement remain, Turkey’s foreign minister said.
