‘Tree for Every Mother’: Indian Embassy campaign touches hearts at Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Natural Reserve

In a heartfelt tribute to environmental sustainability and maternal love, the Embassy of India in Kuwait, in collaboration with UN-Habitat Kuwait, organized a tree plantation drive under the global ‘Plant for Mother’ campaign.
The event took place on 3 May 2025 at the Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Natural Reserve, a prominent ecological site dedicated to the preservation of Kuwait’s native flora and fauna.
This initiative drew participation from a diverse array of guests, including His Excellency Hamad Jassim Al-Habashi, Governor of Jahra, the Heads of UN-Habitat and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kuwait, Ambassadors of several countries, media representatives, and members of the vibrant Indian community in Kuwait.
Together, they united in a symbolic act of environmental stewardship by planting indigenous saplings such as Rhanterium epapposum, Calligonum comosum, and Acacia gerrardii, species native to Kuwait’s arid landscape.
A touching feature of the event was the placement of personalized placards bearing the names of each participant’s mother next to the planted saplings — reflecting the campaign’s core message of honoring motherhood while nurturing the planet.
The ‘Plant for Mother (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam)’ campaign was originally launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on World Environment Day 2024.
He called on citizens to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, a gesture blending ecological action with emotional resonance.
Since its launch, the campaign has seen overwhelming global participation, with more than 1.4 billion saplings planted worldwide.
Numerous world leaders have joined the initiative, either alongside the Prime Minister of India or through local events in their respective countries, reflecting its universal appeal.
The event in Kuwait is part of a broader global movement that continues to galvanize collective environmental responsibility, encouraging individuals and communities to contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
The Embassy’s drive not only fostered deeper ties between India and Kuwait through shared environmental commitment, but also served as a powerful reminder of the enduring bond between humanity and nature — rooted in the love and nurturing spirit of mothers.
