Interior Ministry deploys 338 cameras, 870 patrols across Kuwait as schools reopen

The Ministry of Interior has raised its security and field readiness ahead of the start of the 2026-2027 academic year on Sunday, deploying additional patrols around schools, access roads and key locations to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and protect students and road users.
The ministry said roads and traffic movement will be monitored through 338 traffic surveillance cameras, while flashing systems at traffic lights will be activated to help ease traffic flow. A total of 870 patrols will be deployed, including 520 from the Security Directorates sector, 200 from the Traffic sector and 150 from Emergency Police.
Security directorates will secure school perimeters and vital locations while strengthening security presence. The General Directorate of Traffic will oversee traffic movement, signals and road monitoring from its control room through the 338 surveillance cameras.
Year-round safety campaign
The General Directorate of Emergency Police will provide immediate intervention and respond rapidly to reports received through the ‘112’ emergency number. Alongside the start of the school year, the ministry, through the General Department of Security Relations and Media, has launched its “Prevention and Safety” awareness campaign, which will continue throughout the year.
The campaign includes programs and activities targeting students, parents, educational staff and the wider public, promoting safe and responsible behavior. The ministry urged the public to follow traffic regulations and use pedestrian crossings, avoid sharing bank details or verification codes with anyone, monitor children and encourage open dialogue within families.
The campaign focuses on six areas: road safety, juvenile protection, drug prevention, cybersecurity, intellectual extremism and environmental awareness.
