Pakistan Envoy Highlights Strong Pakistan–Kuwait Partnership During Visit to The Times Kuwait

His Excellency Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the State of Kuwait, paid a courtesy visit to The Times Kuwait, where he met with Editor-in-Chief Tareq Yousef Al-Shumaimry and Executive Managing Editor Reaven D’Souza to discuss Pakistan-Kuwait relations, regional developments, and the evolving role of responsible journalism.

The meeting featured an exchange of views on a range of issues of mutual interest, including the changing geopolitical landscape in the Gulf and the wider Middle East. Discussions underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and regional cooperation in promoting peace, stability, and shared prosperity.

A key focus of the meeting was the recently ratified Defence Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Kuwait. Both sides noted that the agreement represents a significant milestone in the growing strategic partnership between the two friendly nations, providing a framework for enhanced defence collaboration through joint training, exchange of expertise, and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The discussions also highlighted the broader and steadily expanding relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait, particularly in trade, investment, healthcare, and people-to-people ties. Both sides acknowledged the longstanding contributions of the Pakistani community to Kuwait’s economic and social development and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to strengthen in the years ahead.

The conversation further explored the increasingly important role of credible journalism in today’s fast-evolving digital media environment. Ambassador Dr. Zafar Iqbal emphasized the need for factual, balanced, and objective reporting, particularly at a time when misinformation can spread rapidly across digital platforms. He noted that responsible journalism plays a vital role in fostering public trust and promoting informed discourse.

The management of The Times Kuwait reaffirmed the publication’s commitment to delivering accurate, balanced, and responsible journalism while upholding the highest professional and ethical standards. They also emphasized the role of independent media in enhancing public understanding, encouraging constructive dialogue, and strengthening ties between nations.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing appreciation for continued engagement between the diplomatic community and the media, and reaffirming the importance of open dialogue in further deepening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait.
