Governors mark Iraqi invasion anniversary with tribute to sacrifice and patriotism

Governors across Kuwait have described the 36th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion as a solemn national occasion to honor the sacrifices and heroism of the Kuwaiti people while reaffirming the country’s commitment to safeguarding its security, sovereignty and national unity.
In separate statements to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the governors said the anniversary serves as a reminder of the resilience displayed by Kuwaitis during the occupation and the importance of standing united behind the country’s legitimate leadership in times of crisis.
They emphasized that Kuwait’s security, sovereignty and the dignity of its people remain inviolable principles, stressing that national unity continues to be the country’s strongest defense against regional and international challenges.
The governors also prayed for the continued security, stability and prosperity of Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, while paying tribute to Kuwait’s martyrs.
Governor of the Capital Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah said August 2, 1990, will forever remain etched in the memory of every Kuwaiti as a day that tested the nation’s resolve and demonstrated the unity of its people in defending their homeland and constitutional legitimacy.
He said the occupation highlighted the courage, resilience and patriotism of Kuwaitis, who rallied behind their leadership and remained steadfast until the country’s liberation. He also expressed appreciation for the support extended by friendly and allied nations that contributed to Kuwait’s liberation.
Governor of Ahmadi Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah described the anniversary as a national milestone that reflects the values of heroism, sacrifice, loyalty and belonging, noting that Kuwait’s progress and stability since liberation are the result of visionary leadership, dedicated citizens and strong state institutions.
Governor of Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Acting Governor of Hawalli Sheikh Sabah Bader Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah said the unwavering support shown by Kuwaitis for their legitimate leadership during the occupation reflected the deep bond between the leadership and the people.
He added that the sacrifices made by Kuwaitis, together with the support of brotherly and friendly nations, helped restore the country’s freedom and sovereignty.
Governor of Farwaniya Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah said the anniversary remains a lasting symbol of resilience, loyalty and national solidarity. He noted that the unity displayed during the occupation continues to inspire Kuwait’s response to present-day regional and international challenges.
He also praised the role played by friendly and allied countries in supporting international legitimacy and Kuwait’s liberation.
Governor of Jahra Hamad Al-Habashi said the anniversary is not only a remembrance of a painful chapter in Kuwait’s history but also a reaffirmation that the nation’s security, sovereignty and dignity are non-negotiable.
He stressed that national unity remains Kuwait’s strongest safeguard and said current regional developments further underscore the importance of solidarity and standing behind the country’s leadership.
The governors concluded that the lessons of the Iraqi invasion continue to strengthen patriotism, reinforce national identity and inspire future generations to preserve Kuwait’s independence, unity and stability.
