PADA suspends monthly allowances for 60 deceased individuals with disabilities

Seeks assistance from Public Authority for Civil Information to recover funds paid to deceased beneficiaries

The Public Authority Disabilities Affairs has decided to suspend the monthly allowances for approximately 60 people who were registered with PADA under the ‘disability’ category.

The decision was taken after their caregivers failed to notify the relevant authorities. The discovery was made through the Authority’s ongoing data-sharing collaboration with the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI), which regularly provides updated civil status records.

Upon reviewing the latest data, PADA found that monthly allowances were still being deposited into the accounts of the deceased, in violation of existing laws and regulations, reports Al-Rai daily.

A list of the affected individuals was compiled, covering various disability categories from moderate to severe.

The Ministry of Health was contacted to confirm the issuance of death certificates and to determine the date of death for each person, enabling the Authority to calculate the exact period of undue disbursement.

The sources stated that the Authority will recover the disbursed money, either through lump-sum repayments for smaller amounts or via installments for larger sums, to be deducted from the responsible beneficiaries.

Legal procedures are being initiated against those who failed to report the deaths in a timely manner, in line with the regulations governing public funds and disability support allowances.
