5.6-magnitude earthquake rattles Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh, surrounding areas

A moderate earthquake struck Egypt on Monday, prompting authorities to activate emergency response measures after tremors were felt across several parts of the country. No injuries or significant property damage had been reported at the time of publication.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said the earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) reported a slightly higher magnitude of 5.6, stating that the epicenter was located 61 kilometers northeast of Sharm El Sheikh in the Sinai Peninsula.
The Egyptian Red Crescent announced that it had activated its emergency response plan in cities where the tremor was felt.
In a statement, the organization said it had not received any reports of casualties or material damage but urged residents to remain vigilant.
The Red Crescent advised the public to avoid old or structurally weakened buildings, particularly those showing visible cracks, and to rely on official sources for updates while authorities continue to assess the situation.
