No water disconnections during Ramadan

Minister Al-Hajraf orders halt to water disconnections for defaulters during Ramadan.

Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Dr. Salem Al-Hajraf has ordered a halt to the disconnection of water services for citizens who are in arrears on their payments in private housing throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

According to informed sources in the Ministry, “Citizens who had their water service disconnected before the start of Ramadan should visit the Ministry to settle their dues, in preparation for the reinstatement of their water service.”

The sources pointed out that the disconnection of water services for defaulters is part of the Ministry of Electricity and Water’s strategy to collect its debts from citizens. They noted that 435 million dinars have been collected so far in the current fiscal year.

The sources added that the Ministry has addressed government agencies to expedite their response to its requests to collect its dues for electricity and water use before the end of the fiscal year, in order to avoid the accumulation of debts and to preserve public funds and raise collection rates.
