The US reported 77,255 new cases in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day spike since the pandemic outbreak as the nation’s total cases topped 3.5 million, said Johns Hopkins University.
The tally showed that 943 new deaths were reported. The US ranks first globally in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths as the cases nationwide reached at least 3,576,157 and 138,358 deaths.
This comes as 39 states in the US are witnessing an increase in new cases from the previous week with California, Florida, Arizona and Texas becoming the new hotspots.
