The Spanish Ministry of Health on Saturday reported 7,026 more infections with the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), raising Spain’s count of cases to 124,736.

The death toll due to the virus jumped by 809 to 11,744 in the last 24 hours, the lowest toll in a single day since last week, the ministry said in an online statement.

Out of the overall infections, 57,612 Covid-19 patients are receiving medication at hospitals, while 34,219 sufferers have recovered and left the hospital, it added.

Spanish authorities have already built 16 field hospitals in order to receive the growing number of people infected by this contagious disease.

The Spanish government is expected to decide later today to extend the state of emergency by a further couple of weeks; from April 12 to 26.
