Indian health authorities said on Wednesday that 648 people succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 while 37,724 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours from different parts of the country.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its update that the total corona virus infection in the country soared to 1,192,915 people and death toll due to the pandemic rose to 28,732. Number of people who recovered from the deadly disease also jumped to 753,050 as the pandemic hit 35 Indian states.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka, Assam and Bihar are among the worst affected Indian states.

The government has asked people, governments and local authorities to take all necessary precautions as the nation entered into the second phase of unlocking, adding guidelines in the containment zones should be followed strictly.
