Indian health authorities said on Friday that 740 people succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 and 49,310 new infections were reported from different parts of the country.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update that death toll due to the pandemic so far rose to 30,601 while total COVID-19 cases in the country jumped to 1.28 million. So far, 817,209 people have recovered from the deadly disease as the pandemic hit 35 Indian states.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka, Assam and Bihar are among the worst affected Indian states.

The government has asked people, governments and local authorities to take all necessary precautions as the nation entered into the second phase of unlocking, adding guidelines in the containment zones should be followed strictly.
