Indian authorities said on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 deaths soared to 312 cases, while one day positive cases recorded in the country were 14933.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update that total number of positive cases spiked to 440,215 and the death toll due to the pandemic so far jumped to 14,011.

Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat are considered the worst affected Indian states in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Indian government had decided to extend the lockdown in containment zones while giving key relaxations in the less affected areas.

However, many state governments are unwilling to extend the lockdown as it has already made the normal life and economic activities in jeopardy.
