COVID-19 has claimed 442 lives in the last 24 hours while there were 22,771 new positive cases, Indian authorities said on Saturday.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its update today that COVID-19 death toll so far climbed to 18,655 while total positive cases jumped to 648,315 people.

Maharashtra is leading other states with 8,376 deaths 192,990 positive cases followed by Tamil Nadu (1,385 deaths, 102,721 cases), capital New Delhi (2,923 deaths 94,695 cases) and Gujarat (1,904 deaths 34,600 cases).

The government has asked people, governments and local authorities to take all necessary precautions as the nation entered into the second phase of unlock adding guidelines in the containment zones should be followed strictly.
