Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery hits global milestone in risk management, safety

Ghanem Al-Otaibi, Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s spokesperson, said the refinery’s high rating places it among the world’s best and reflects the company’s commitment to risk management and asset protection.

Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery, a subsidiary of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, earned a record 98.4 points in a field survey conducted by a group of international insurance companies, marking the highest score the refinery has achieved in its history.

The teams at the Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery received high praise from inspection experts for their efficiency in strictly applying best practices and international standards.

 

The Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, a subsidiary of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, has reached a significant global milestone in risk management and operational safety, earning a record 98.4 points in a field survey conducted by a group of international insurance companies. This is the highest score the refinery has achieved in its history, according to Al Rai newspaper.

Ghanem Al-Otaibi, Executive Vice President of Enterprises and Spokesman for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday that the field survey was conducted by a group of well-known international insurance companies, including Marsh, the American International Group, Liberty, and Score.

Al-Otaibi added that this assessment is part of the annual review of all Kuwaiti oil sector establishments, aimed at measuring compliance with international safety standards and evaluating the readiness of these establishments to face potential risks.

He highlighted the particular significance of this achievement in light of the recent expansions at the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, which included the addition of environmental fuel units and the fifth gas line, increasing operational complexity and the number of assets. He emphasized that this high rating places the refinery among the best oil refineries in the world.

Al-Otaibi emphasized that the refinery’s achievement reflects the Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s strong commitment to effective risk management strategies and the protection of people and assets.

He mentioned that the refinery teams received high praise from inspection experts for their efficiency in strictly applying best practices and international standards, continuously innovating work systems and procedures, investing in health, safety, and environmental fields, adopting advanced employee training programs, rigorously implementing periodic maintenance plans, and effectively responding to the recommendations of previous inspection teams.

He also noted that this success is the result of the collective efforts of all refinery employees and the guidance of the company’s senior management. Al-Otaibiexpressed pride in this achievement, which strengthens the Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s reputation as a leader committed to the highest safety and quality standards across its operations.
