Kuwait, Pakistan sign joint defense cooperation agreement to expand military cooperation
- Under the new agreement, the Pakistan Armed Forces will provide assistance to the Kuwait Armed Forces in several areas, including training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed fields of defence cooperation.
Kuwait and Pakistan on Thursday signed a joint agreement to strengthen defense and military cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Kuwait’s Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and Pakistan’s Minister of Defense Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
The signing was attended by Chief of the General Staff Lt Gen Khaled Daraj Saad Al-Shuraian and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi. The agreement was signed during Sheikh Abdullah’s official visit to Pakistan, where he met his Pakistani counterpart in Islamabad and received an official military reception.
During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed the longstanding Kuwaiti-Pakistani relations and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the defense and military fields. They also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments and issues of common interest, as well as efforts aimed at supporting security and stability in the region.
The Ministry of Defense described the agreement as an important milestone in military and defense cooperation between Kuwait and Pakistan. It said the agreement provides a framework for enhancing operational coordination, exchanging expertise and strengthening the readiness and integration of the two countries’ armed forces.
Under the new agreement, the Pakistan Armed Forces will provide assistance to the Kuwait Armed Forces in several areas, including training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed fields of defence cooperation.
The Pakistani ministry said the agreement reflected the “deep trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests” underpinning the longstanding defence relationship between the two countries.
Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their partnership in support of mutual security and regional peace and stability. Earlier, the Kuwaiti delegation met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional ties and expanding mutually beneficial defence cooperation. The Kuwaiti delegation praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces and their contributions to regional peace and stability.
The meeting reaffirmed the two countries’ resolve to deepen their longstanding relations and build a stronger, enduring and mutually beneficial defence partnership, the ISPR said.
