Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan take ties to new level with Alliance Treaty
. . . marks an important milestone in the development of Kyrgyz-Azerbaijani relations and strengthens the strategic partnership between the two countries

On July 30-31, 2026, the Kyrgyz Republic hosted a state visit by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, marking an important milestone in the development of Kyrgyz-Azerbaijani relations and the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
A key outcome of the visit was the signing by the two Heads of State of the Treaty on Allied Relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Treaty establishes a new and higher level of political trust, mutual support and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The state visit took place against the backdrop of the informal Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Cholpon-Ata Declaration, reaffirming the countries’ shared commitment to further strengthening regional cooperation in the political, trade and economic, transport and logistics, energy and humanitarian spheres.
President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov put forward a number of initiatives aimed at promoting peace, regional stability, mutual trust and good-neighborly relations among the countries of Central Asia.

Particular attention was given to the proposal to introduce a unified visa for foreign citizens visiting the countries of Central Asia. The initiative is intended to facilitate tourism, expand business ties and further enhance the region’s attractiveness to international visitors and investors.
The strengthening of allied relations between Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan opens new opportunities for expanding trade and economic cooperation, developing transport and logistics connectivity and making more effective use of the region’s transit potential.
Of particular importance is cooperation within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, as well as collaboration in the energy sector, including the development of renewable energy sources.
The Kyrgyz Republic continues to make a constructive contribution to regional and international peace and security, while promoting the principles of peace, trust and multilateral cooperation.
This commitment has gained particular significance following Kyrgyzstan’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.
