Kuwait’s electricity demand soars past 8,000 MW amid rising heat
The electricity load index in the country has begun its upward trend, with record figures expected during the peak months of next summer.

• The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is operating at full capacity to complete maintenance work on electricity generation and water distillation units according to schedule before the summer season begins.
As temperatures climbed to 30°C, electricity demand, which had remained steady at around 7,000 MW for the past three months, surged past 8,000 MW.
Informed sources at the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy told Al-Rai newspaper that “the electricity load index has begun its upward trend, with record figures expected during the peak months of next summer.”
The sources noted that the ministry is operating at full capacity to complete maintenance work on electricity generation and water distillation units according to schedule before the summer season begins.
They indicated that “the ministry has so far completed more than 50 percent of the maintenance work required for the production units covered by the maintenance program,” expecting that “electricity production will reach a peak of 18,600 megawatts next summer.”
The sources explained that “the ministry is working to complete the maintenance program on time without delays by taking as many units offline as possible for maintenance while ensuring sufficient electrical capacity to meet the country’s electricity and water needs.”
They also noted that the increased use of air conditioning units, which consume approximately 70 percent of electricity production, is the primary factor behind the rise in consumption compared to the past three months.
