Kuwait’s banknotes, coins in circulation exceed two billion dinars

According to figures released by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), the total value of banknotes and coins in circulation reached KWD 2.03 billion by the end of February, marking a 4.1% increase (KWD 81.41 million), from KWD 1.95 billion at the end of January 2025.

The data showed that banknotes make up 98.4% of the cash in circulation, amounting to KWD 2 billion, while coins account for 1.6%, valued at KWD 31.6 million.

The 20-dinar banknote saw a 3.16% increase in February, rising by KWD 33.85 million to reach KWD 1.1 billion, compared to KWD 1.06 billion in January.

The value of the 10-dinar banknote increased by 2.4% (KWD 15.66 million), reaching KWD 651.03 million by the end of February, up from KWD 635.36 million in January. Meanwhile, the 5-dinar banknote saw a significant rise of 17.1% (KWD 25.06 million), reaching KWD 171.57 million at the end of February, compared to KWD 146.51 million in January.

The 1-dinar banknote saw an increase of KWD 4.96 million (11%), reaching KWD 49.94 million by the end of February, up from KWD 44.97 million in January.

Similarly, the 5/5-dinar denomination rose by KWD 1.03 million (7.6%), reaching KWD 14.48 million at the end of February, compared to KWD 13.45 million in January 2025.

Lastly, the 4/5-dinar denomination increased by KWD 817.9 thousand (7%), reaching KWD 12.4 million at the end of February, up from KWD 11.58 million in January.

Regarding coins, their value increased by KWD 15.16 thousand (0.05%) in February 2025, reaching KWD 31.6 million, up from KWD 31.58 million in January.

The 100-fils denomination declined by KWD 9.75 thousand (0.07%) in February, reaching KWD 14.11 million compared to KWD 14.12 million in January.

Meanwhile, the 50-fils denomination increased by KWD 5.2 thousand (0.05%) during February, reaching KWD 10.07 million, up from KWD 10.06 million at the end of January 2025.

The 20-fils denomination increased by KWD 7.15 thousand (1.7%) in February 2025, reaching KWD 4.14 million compared to KWD 4.13 million in January.

Similarly, the 10-fils denomination rose by KWD 11.06 thousand (0.56%) to KWD 1.97 million, up from KWD 1.96 million at the end of January.

The 5-fils denomination remained unchanged in February 2025, at KWD 1.11 million, while the 1-fils denomination also held steady at KWD 12.76 thousand, matching January levels.
