Kuwait’s 84% youth and 67% adults physically inactive
The Director of the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abeer Al-Baho, announced that the rate of physical inactivity among adolescents aged 11 to 17 in Kuwait, has risen to 84 percent, according to recent statistics, and to about 67 percent among adults.
Al-Baho announced during a Sunday training course, which was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health’s Primary Care Department; that the initiative aims to encourage physical activity, which otherwise can cause chronic non-communicable diseases. The course introduces guidelines to promote and support a more active lifestyle across various age groups in Kuwait.
Furthermore, Al-Baho highlighted that the course covers health guidelines to promote physical activity for all age groups, including individuals with chronic conditions, disabilities, and for pregnant and postpartum women, ensuring inclusivity in health promotion.
The research indicated that The World Health Organization’s sustainable development plans aim to reduce physical inactivity rates by 15% by 2030. These recommendations encourage countries to launch national awareness campaigns and foster environments that support physical activity across all segments of society, promoting sports and exercise as accessible for everyone.
