Kuwait wins ICAO backing over Iranian attacks on civil aviation infrastructure

The Public Authority of Civil Aviation said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the ICAO Council reviewed a working paper submitted by Iran challenging Kuwait’s allegations, alongside Kuwait’s formal protest letters concerning repeated attacks on the airport and related civil aviation infrastructure.
The matter was placed on the agenda of the session, which included participation from 93 representatives of member states and all 36 members of the ICAO Council, news agencies report.
According to the authority, ICAO Secretary-General presented a report at the beginning of the session outlining details of the alleged Iranian attacks on Kuwait International Airport, referencing Kuwait’s protest letters dated June 5 and June 11, supported by photographic and documentary evidence.
The report was shared with Council members, and no interventions or objections were recorded from participating states during the session. Kuwait said Iran’s submission was deemed incorrect, reinforcing the Council’s previous condemnation related to the issue.
The Kuwaiti delegation, led by PACA Chairman Sheikh Eng. Hamoud Mubarak Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, expressed appreciation for ICAO’s support as well as backing from member states and the Arab Group.
Kuwait said the Council’s position reflects the international community’s commitment to safeguarding civil aviation security and protecting critical airport infrastructure from any acts that may endanger safety and operations.
