Kuwait to host Sustainable Energy Conference and Exhibition on May 11–13

Ministry aims to generate 15 percent of Kuwait's total electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030, fulfilling the vision of the country's leadership

Kuwait will host the Kuwait Sustainable Energy Conference and Exhibition from May 11 to 13, under the patronage of the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem.

Engineer Ahmed Al-Dosari, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and Director of the Ministry’s Renewable Energy Department, affirmed during a press conference that the Ministry is fully committed to implementing its renewable energy projects on schedule. These projects include initiatives through direct agreements with the Chinese side and others executed via the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Dosari stated, “The Ministry aims to generate 15 percent of Kuwait’s total electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030, fulfilling the vision of the country’s leadership.”

He explained that the conference coincides with Kuwait’s chairmanship of the Center’s Board of Trustees and aims to promote the transition to sustainable energy, aligning with Kuwait Vision 2035.
It will also foster regional cooperation among Arab and Mediterranean countries in renewable energy research, technology development, and energy efficiency.
The conference seeks to:

  • Enhance partnerships with scientific research institutions and private companies.
  • Discuss international policy developments.
  • Develop effective strategies for energy transition and sustainable development.
  • Raise awareness about the economic benefits of renewable energy.
  • Attract local and international investments into the renewable energy sector.
  • Provide an interactive platform for public-private sector cooperation.

Conference Highlights

Dr. Futouh Al-Raqam, Acting Executive Director of the Energy and Building Research Center at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, noted that the three-day event will gather prominent speakers, policymakers, and experts from the GCC, the Mediterranean, and the international community to address key issues related to energy transition and sustainable development.

Key sessions will include:

  • A high-level opening session and regional dialogues on renewable energy solutions, hydrogen trade routes, and the role of electrical interconnection in accelerating the Arab region’s energy transformation.
  • A celebration marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the League of Arab States, showcasing progress in energy efficiency.
  • Discussions on green investment opportunities, climate change adaptation, sustainable entrepreneurship, and critical energy transition minerals (CETMs), highlighting Kuwait’s strategic role.
  • Sectoral strategies to accelerate energy transition, carbon management technologies, and innovations like blockchain to support sustainable energy expansion.
