Kuwait to host ‘International Conference on Strengthening Cooperation in Combating Terrorism’
The conference will be held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, and on his behalf in the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, along with the President of Tajikistan, H. E. Emomali Rahmon and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism,Vladimir Voronkov.
• The conference is a key platform in strengthening regional and international cooperation on border security for combating terrorism and its financing.
• It will also serve as a guiding document for counter-terrorism efforts and capacity-building in the field of border security.
Kuwait will host the fourth high-level conference on ‘Strengthening International Cooperation in Combating Terrorism and Building Flexible Mechanisms for Border Security – Kuwait’s stage of the Dushanbe operation’.
The conference will be held during 4-5 November, under the patronage of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, and on his behalf in the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, along with the participation from the President of Tajikistan, H. E. Emomali Rahmon and, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov.
This came in a statement made by the Foreign Minister, Abdullah Al-Yahya, to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Saturday, during which he said,that the State of Kuwait has organized this conference in cooperation with Tajikistan and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office (UNOCT).
The conference is a continuation of the Dushanbe counter-terrorism operation and its financing launched by Tajikistan in 2018. This will be the fourth edition of the Dushanbe operation after previous international conferences that were held in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe in 2018, 2019 and 2022.
Al-Yahya said that the conference represents a pivotal platform for strengthening regional and international cooperation on border security, in the context of combating terrorism and it’s financing.
Importantly, more than 450 participants will take part in this very significant conference, which will include; 33 ministers from Member States, as well as representatives of the specialized agencies of the United Nations, 23 international and regional organizations and, 13 civil society organizations.
Furthermore, Al-Yahya stated that the conference will provide an opportunity for; exchangingexperiences and visions in combating terrorism, discuss lessons learned from common challenges, debate about ways to confront the threats arising from terrorism and its consequences, and ways to strengthen regional and international cooperation in this context.
The conference will conclude on November 5, with the adoption of the Kuwait Declaration on Border Security and Management, which will reflect the discussions, opinions and views of the participants. It will also serve as a guiding document for counter-terrorism efforts and capacity-building in the field of border security.
The hosting of this very relevant future-securityconference comes from the keenness of the State of Kuwait about its international and regional role,in the field of combating terrorism and its financing.
Similarly, in extending the State’s support, for all the UN and regional efforts to eliminate thisphenomenon, that negatively affects international and regional security.
