Cuba, Kuwait hold talks on double taxation agreement, boost ties

A Kuwaiti delegation representing the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs has begun the first round of talks with Cuba on a double taxation agreement, in the presence of Kuwait’s Ambassador to Cuba H.E. Adel Al-Adgham.

The talks, which will continue until Friday, focus on discussing the provisions of the proposed agreement with officials from Cuba’s Ministry of Finance and assessing its compatibility with the laws of both countries, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Havana said in a statement.

Speaking to KUNA, Ambassador Al-Adgham said Kuwait is among the few countries that have obtained the Cuban government’s approval to discuss and finalise a memorandum of understanding on a double taxation agreement. He said the move reflects the close relations between Kuwait and Cuba and Kuwait’s efforts to strengthen trade and economic relations between the two countries across various fields.

The Kuwaiti delegation is headed by Bader Al-Abdulhadi, head of the Tax Agreements Section at the Ministry of Finance. It includes Ibrahim Al-Ameer from the same section and Third Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elaf Al-Rish.

The delegation also met with Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Deborah Rivas, who highlighted investment opportunities in Cuba. Rivas thanked Kuwait for its continued support and interest in strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries. She also praised the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development’s key role in supporting Cuba’s infrastructure, noting that it was the first development fund in the world to begin operations in the Republic of Cuba.

The Kuwaiti delegation also met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Cuba, Juana Lilia, who briefed the delegation on Cuba’s latest economic and financial developments and new investment laws.
