Kuwait steps up fire safety measures at wedding halls and care homes

. . . tightens safety protocols to protect visitors and care home residents

Kuwait is strengthening fire prevention and emergency preparedness across government-run wedding halls and care homes as part of a broader effort to enhance public safety and ensure full compliance with national safety standards.

The initiative was discussed during a high-level meeting between Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah and Chief of the General Kuwait Force Major-General Talal Al-Roumi, where both sides reviewed measures to reinforce safety systems, improve operational readiness, and strengthen coordination between their respective institutions.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, discussions focused on ensuring that all ministry facilities, particularly wedding halls and residential care homes, meet approved security and fire safety requirements while enhancing preparedness to safeguard visitors, residents and staff.

Dr. Al-Huwailah stressed the importance of strict adherence to technical and safety regulations governing wedding halls, noting that compliance not only protects the public but also facilitates the licensing process by ensuring facilities meet all regulatory requirements.

She also called for comprehensive periodic inspections of all wedding halls, enhanced preparedness of personnel responsible for managing the facilities, and the introduction of advanced early warning systems as part of the ministry’s future modernization plans.

The measures are intended to improve emergency response capabilities and strengthen preventive safety standards.

The minister further directed that continuous monitoring be maintained across all care homes operated by the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Public Authority for Disability Affairs, and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs to ensure a secure environment for beneficiaries and employees alike.

As part of the initiative, the ministry will also develop specialized training programs and emergency response courses aimed at improving the capabilities of staff responsible for implementing safety procedures and responding effectively to potential emergencies.

The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the General Fire Force, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening preventive safety measures across public service facilities.
