Kuwait reaffirms solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid Houthi maritime threats

Kuwait has strongly condemned statements made by the Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia, describing the claims as unfounded and rejecting threats directed at maritime navigation in the Red Sea.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and stressed the importance of safeguarding the security of international shipping routes.

The ministry called on the international community to ensure the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722, which affirms the protection of navigation and commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

It also emphasized that freedom of navigation through international waterways is a fundamental principle of international law and is guaranteed under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Reiterating Kuwait’s position, the ministry said the country stands in full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supports all measures taken to protect its sovereignty, national security and territorial integrity.

It added that the security of Saudi Arabia is inseparable from the security of Kuwait and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), underscoring the importance of regional cooperation in maintaining stability and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international maritime trade.
