Kuwait ranks first in Gulf with shortest Ramadan fasting hours

The difference in fasting hours between GCC countries was minimal, with a gap of no more than 7 minutes.

• The Comoros had the longest fasting hours, with duration of 13 hours and 28 minutes, followed by Djibouti at 13 hours and 14 minutes, Sudan at 13 hours and 6 minutes, and Mauritania at 13 hours.

With the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan and its customary practices common across Islamic countries, the number of fasting hours varies from one country to another, as reported by Al Rai newspaper.

The Arab countries are very close in the number of fasting hours, especially within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Kuwait ranked first in the Gulf with the shortest fasting hours this year, at 12 hours and 53 minutes, followed by Oman with 12 hours and 56 minutes, then Saudi Arabia with 12 hours and 58 minutes.

The United Arab Emirates ranked fourth in the Gulf with 12 hours and 59 minutes, while Bahrain and Qatar ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, with 13 hours (based on approximate astronomical calculations for the first days of the holy month).

In the Arab world, the Comoros had the longest fasting hours, with duration of 13 hours and 28 minutes, followed by Djibouti at 13 hours and 14 minutes, Sudan at 13 hours and 6 minutes, and Mauritania at 13 hours.

The fasting period in Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, and Morocco was the same, at 12 hours and 56 minutes, while in Algeria it increased to 13 hours and 3 minutes, and in Yemen, it reached 13 hours and 1 minute.

Outside the Arab world, the shortest fasting hours were recorded in Chile, Latin America, at 12 hours and 44 minutes, while in New Zealand, they increased to 12 hours and 46 minutes.

As for the longest fasting hours in non-Islamic countries, they were in Sweden, Norway, and Finland, where they reached 20 hours and 30 minutes, and up to 21 hours in some areas of those countries.
