Kuwait ranks 66th globally and 6th in Gulf in e-government index
Kuwait ranked 66th globally and 20th in Asia in the United Nations E-Government Development Index and its sub-indicators for the year 2024, down 5 places from the previous ranking in 2022, while Saudi Arabia achieved a qualitative leap and ranked 6th globally, 1st regionally and 2nd among the G20 countries.
In the Gulf, Kuwait ranked 6th, after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar, in order. The UAE ranked 11th globally, joining Bahrain, which ranked 18th, among the top 20 countries. Oman ranked 41st, and Qatar 53rd globally.
By coming in 6th place globally, Saudi Arabia jumped 25 places and became one of the top 10 countries in the world, while Qatar also advanced 25 places, the UAE 19 places, Bahrain 36 places, and Oman 9 places.
According to the report, Denmark came in 1st place, followed by Estonia in 2nd, Singapore in 3rd , South Korea in 4th , and Iceland in 5th.
Kuwait ranked 66th globally in the “Very High” category, according to data and statistics from the 2024 edition of the “E-Government Development Index” (EDGI), issued by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
Kuwait also fell into the same category (very high) on the “Telecommunications Infrastructure Index” and received a “high” rating in the “Internet Services Index” and “Human Capital Index” categories.
Kuwait ranked 20th in Asia in the classification of leading countries in terms of e-governments on the continent during the year 2024.
According to the classification, Kuwait obtained a score of 0.7812 during the 2024 survey, compared to a score of 0.7484 during the 2022 survey, which is considered relatively good progress.
The report indicated that digital transformations in Kuwait are a key part of its broader strategy to diversify the economy and enhance public services. Regarding the components of the e-Government Development Index, he commended Kuwait’s good performance in the field of telecommunications infrastructure, which is one of the main areas measured, noting that the country continues to improve online services and develop human capital to enhance its position in the field of e-government, which contributed to making the government system more efficient and easier to access.
