Dr. Mahmoud Boushehri, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and achieving carbon neutrality, Al Jarida newspaper reported.
This was stated by minister Boushehri in his speech at the opening of the 24th meeting of the Regional Renewable Energy Council at the Radisson Blu Hotel. He emphasized that the meeting reflects the participating countries’ firm commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, accelerating the transition to more sustainable energy systems, and achieving sustainable development goals.
He explained that clean energy production focuses on two main pillars: energy generation from renewable sources and energy consumption. He noted that improving energy efficiency would reduce consumption, thereby limiting electricity production through traditional methods, which would positively impact the environment.

Boushehri called for the development of policies and mechanisms to enhance investment in renewable energy and its efficient use across various economic sectors, including private housing, investment, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors.
He noted that the meeting comes at a time when there is an ongoing effort to adopt clean energy technologies and enhance energy efficiency as fundamental pillars of sustainable development.
Facilitating knowledge exchange
He highlighted the vital role of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in supporting regional countries by facilitating knowledge exchange, building capabilities, and providing effective recommendations for developing practical national and regional policies.
He emphasized the importance of direct investment in renewable energy, localizing modern technology, and training national and Arab professionals. Additionally, he stressed the need to raise community awareness about energy efficiency to promote responsible consumption and ensure sustainability.
Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week
Boushehri announced that Kuwait, through the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, will host Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week from May 11 to 13. The event will feature a conference and exhibition organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, with participation from global and regional public and private sector entities.
He expressed Kuwait’s ambition for the event to serve as a premier platform for fostering cooperation, showcasing the latest innovations, and exchanging expertise on sustainable energy solutions for the region’s future.
Driving sustainable development
He concluded by emphasizing that transforming the energy sector requires intensified efforts, strengthened partnerships, and an integrated approach rooted in innovation and strategic planning. He expressed confidence that these meetings will enhance joint action and help formulate policies that drive sustainable development across the region.
