Kuwait mandates water heater energy-saving requirements in new buildings

The Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, has issued a ministerial decision adopting a new technical code for water heaters in buildings, setting minimum technical standards for the design and installation of water heating systems across residential and non-residential properties in Kuwait.
The code requires new buildings and expansions that involve increased electrical load to comply with the specified technical standards, aimed at improving energy efficiency and optimizing hot water consumption.
For non-residential buildings, the regulation mandates the installation of systems capable of achieving at least 60 percent savings in total water heating demand, supporting national energy conservation goals.
In residential buildings, the decision allows flexibility in choosing heating systems, provided that any selected system complies with energy efficiency requirements. This includes the use of high-efficiency technologies such as solar water heaters and heat pump-based systems.
