Kuwait employee injured after attack by eight dogs at workplace
A routine break at work turned into a serious ordeal for 32-year-old Mustafa Hamad Al-Saqr, an employee at the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources and a karate player with Burgan Club, after he was attacked by eight dogs early Saturday morning.
The attack took place at around 3:00 am at the authority’s headquarters and continued for nearly half an hour, according to his brother, Nasser Al-Saqr. Mustafa had stepped outside during his break to exercise when the dogs suddenly approached and attacked him.
Nasser told Al-Rai that Mustafa tried to protect himself with his hands and body and continued fighting off the dogs until he began to feel that he was losing consciousness. He was eventually helped by a colleague who heard the attack and used his car horn to drive the dogs away before an ambulance was called.
Mustafa was taken to Al-Farwaniya Hospital and admitted to intensive care. He suffered injuries to several parts of his body, from his head to his feet, including a deep wound to his right leg and a serious injury to his left hand. His brother said doctors were still conducting examinations and MRI scans to determine the full extent of his injuries.
The attack has also left Mustafa dealing with psychological distress. Nasser said his brother continues to relive the incident and experiences the attack repeatedly when he closes his eyes. Matar Al-Baghili, a board member of the Kuwaiti Union of Livestock Breeders, visited Mustafa and called for stronger action to address the spread of stray dogs, saying the problem has increasingly affected residential and industrial areas as well as hospital grounds and recreational facilities.
The case has also received follow-up from First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, who checked on Mustafa’s condition and followed developments in his treatment. For his family, the incident has been particularly difficult because Mustafa had been preparing for a karate championship on the same day. Nasser said his brother had contacted the family the previous day and asked them to attend and support him at the competition.
Instead, Mustafa found himself facing a very different challenge — recovering in hospital from an unexpected attack and hoping to return to his normal life.
