The CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Sheikh Nawaf Al-Saud, announced that Kuwait has completed the engineering studies for the Al-Dorra gas field. He emphasized that the plan is progressing on schedule, with full agreement from Saudi Arabian partners, and that Kuwait will proceed with the subsequent procedures.
Al-Saud further explained in a statement during the Regional Organization for Ocean Clean-Spills conference and exhibition that the new explorations are unrelated to the Al-Durra field. He also highlighted the recent announcement of the discovery of significant commercial quantities in the Al-Julai’a field, located in the Kuwaiti maritime area.
Moreover, Al-Saud emphasized that the Al-Julai’a marine field is a significant new discovery, marking the second marine field in Kuwait. He highlighted the field’s importance due to the presence of reservoirs, which indicate its global significance. He also noted that Kuwait is set to begin exploration operations in marine areas, more than 85 years after the discovery of oil in onshore areas, underscoring the importance of this new phase in the country’s energy sector.
Regarding Kuwait’s progress toward its target production capacity by the end of 2024, Al-Sabah stated that Kuwait’s production capacity has already surpassed 3 million barrels of oil per day. He confirmed that the country is on track with its planned production targets.
Al-Sabah stated that the Petroleum Corporation is focused on increasing Kuwait’s production capacity, with a strategic plan in place to reach 4 million barrels per day by 2035.
On the other hand, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Saud emphasized the State of Kuwait’s strong commitment to environmental concerns. He pointed out that the country has developed a comprehensive long-term monitoring and follow-up plan aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management program, which focuses on protecting the marine environment and supporting the rehabilitation of its ecosystem.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation, Tarik Al-Roumi, during the opening of the conference held under the theme “Sustainable Clean Seas,” Al-Saud highlighted the adoption of various legislations and laws aimed at preserving a clean environment. He specifically mentioned the Environmental Protection Law of 2014, which prohibits, among other things, the discharge of materials, waste, or liquids that could cause pollution in beaches or adjacent waters. The law also forbids practices that harm fungal organisms, whether terrestrial or marine.
Al-Saud emphasized that the organization of this event underscores several fundamental and important issues for the State of Kuwait. He pointed out that it highlights the well-established principles outlined in successive plans and strategies, with the most notable being the vision of “New Kuwait 2035.”
Furthermore, Al-Saud stated that these laws, along with others, are part of the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all sectors contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals. He highlighted the significant progress made in implementing these goals, particularly those related to this conference, which focuses on preserving oceans, seas, and marine resources. He emphasized the importance of their sustainable use, as well as the protection, restoration, and enhancement of terrestrial ecosystems.
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah stated that all these laws, legislation, and efforts are closely aligned with the goals of the conference. He emphasized Kuwait’s full support for the conference and its objectives, highlighting the long-standing positive cooperation with REXO, which has significantly contributed to protecting the Kuwaiti Sea from various types of pollution.
Al-Sabah reiterated his full support for the Kuwaiti oil sector, including the Kuwait Oil Company, which is hosting this prominent event. He highlighted the sector’s ongoing efforts to protect the environment, both on land and at sea, noting that all of the sector’s projects incorporate numerous initiatives aimed at preserving Kuwait’s clean environment.
For his part, the CEO of Kuwait Oil Company, Ahmed Al-Aidan, stated that the conference is a reflection of the ongoing and full cooperation between the company and REXO. He emphasized that many significant achievements have been made, which have contributed to maintaining the safety of the Kuwaiti Sea, despite the numerous risks posed by heavy maritime traffic through the country’s ports.
Al-Aidan expressed Kuwait Oil Company’s pride in its close relationship with the organization, highlighting the fruitful cooperation that has led to numerous efforts aimed at developing operations, addressing future challenges, and exploring strategies to achieve these goals.
Importantly, Al-Aidan highlighted that this conference addresses an issue of paramount importance to all stakeholders involved in maintaining a clean marine environment. He emphasized that Kuwait Oil Company applies the concept of sustainability across all its initiatives and projects, aiming to achieve the goals of sustainable development. The company’s ultimate goal is to ensure that Kuwait remains safe, sustainable, and that the security and safety of the Kuwaiti Sea are safeguarded.
Al-Aidan pointed out that Kuwait Oil Company places special emphasis on ensuring the safety of the sea, particularly following the launch of offshore drilling operations after recent discoveries.
The president of the conference and the president of the organization (REXO), Sami Al-Sawagh, stated that the organization has worked for over five decades to achieve its noble core goal of keeping seawater in the region safe and secure, ensuring it provides a suitable environment for all types of marine life that pass through its waters in all directions.
Al-Sawagh explained that they operate in a region that includes many of the world’s leading oil and gas producers, yet REXO has successfully overcome all challenges and maximized hopes and ambitions. This success is due to the unwavering and continuous cooperation from all governments and national oil companies, as well as coordination with companies involved in the transportation of various goods, materials, and high-risk substances in this regard.
In conclusion, Al-Sawagh pointed out that the conference has consistently demonstrated its ability to address various circumstances and generate innovative solutions to the issues that arise over time. He expressed hope that the current session of the conference would fulfill the expected objectives, especially as challenges continue to grow, making it increasingly difficult to tackle them and ensure the necessary solutions.
