China and Kuwait are poised to further strengthen their strategic partnership as the two countries celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with cooperation expanding across infrastructure, trade, investment and regional affairs.
The commitment was reaffirmed by Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Yang Xin during a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy on Monday evening to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The event, held at the Ambassador’s Residence in Mishref, was attended by senior Kuwaiti officials, diplomats, business leaders, academics, media representatives and members of the Chinese community. The chief guest was Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Nawaf Abdullatif Sulaiman Al-Ahmed.
Speaking at the event and on its sidelines, Ambassador Yang said bilateral relations have made significant progress under the guidance of the leaderships of both countries and are entering a new phase of practical cooperation.
He revealed that the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project has entered the implementation stage, while consultations are continuing on several other major development projects expected to be announced in the near future.
The ambassador said both countries are also exploring cooperation in food security, water resources, logistics infrastructure, sustainable development, digital economy, healthcare, education, technology and cultural exchange, with China proposing reciprocal visits by government officials and technical experts to accelerate collaboration.
Highlighting the importance of the milestone year, Yang described the China-Kuwait relationship as one built on mutual respect, trust and shared development, noting that close engagement between President Xi Jinping and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has provided strategic direction for expanding bilateral cooperation.
Turning to regional affairs, the ambassador reaffirmed China’s support for efforts to achieve a ceasefire and lasting peace in the Middle East, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only sustainable path to resolving conflicts.
He added that President Xi has put forward several initiatives aimed at promoting long-term peace, security and stability in the region.
Yang also announced that China is preparing to host the Second China-Arab Summit and the Second China-Gulf Summit, with consultations under way with Arab and Gulf states on the timing of both meetings.
Reviewing China’s development journey, Ambassador Yang said the Communist Party of China has transformed the country since its founding in 1921, lifting more than 800 million people out of extreme poverty, building the world’s largest education, healthcare and social security systems, and developing China into the world’s second-largest economy with a governing party of more than 100 million members.
He added that China now contributes more than 30 percent of global economic growth and remains committed to promoting multilateralism, international cooperation and peaceful development through initiatives including the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Global Governance Initiative.
Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Yang expressed confidence that China-Kuwait relations will continue to grow, with both countries working together to advance shared development goals and create new opportunities for their peoples.
