The Kuwait Municipality has officially announced its stance against converting private housing basements into warehouses, as reported by Al Rai newspaper.

In a statement, the municipality warned citizens owning private and model housing against renting out their basements for this purpose, emphasizing the importance of avoiding legal violations and complying with regulations. This directive follows the evacuation and correction of violations in basements of investment and commercial properties.

Muhammad Sandan, Director of the Public Relations Department and official spokesman for Kuwait Municipality, urged citizens to avoid using their home basements as warehouses, highlighting the risk of endangering lives and property for the sake of financial gain.

He noted that recent monitoring by supervisory teams revealed random advertisements seeking to rent basements at high fees in private and model residential areas after the removal of violators’ goods from basements in investment and commercial areas.

He emphasized that Kuwait Municipality teams would confront these violators during their inspection tours to prevent the storage of various goods such as food, furniture, flammable materials, or materials containing toxic gases in homes and basements, and to prevent their exploitation for purposes other than housing, which constitutes a serious violation of bylaws, regulations, and municipal law.

Sandan confirmed that Kuwait Municipality is prepared to address complaints from citizens and residents promptly upon receiving them, either by calling the 139 hotline or via WhatsApp at 24727732, to report any violations.
