Kuwait aims for 50 percent renewable energy share by 2050

Clean energy no longer a choice, it’s a necessity

Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, announced that the country is prioritizing a balanced energy mix as part of its long-term strategy, to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2050.

Speaking at the opening of Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week which runs from May 11 to 13, an event that gathered global organizations, research centers, government entities, and private sector leaders, Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized that clean energy investment has become a critical necessity in response to growing environmental and economic challenges, reports Al-Rai daily.

He stressed that Kuwait is actively working on clean energy initiatives, diversifying energy sources, and fostering regional and global partnerships.

These efforts are designed to enhance grid stability, build robust national economies, and embed sustainability into the country’s development agenda, aligning with Kuwait’s international obligations and vision for a greener future.
