President Aoun thanks Kuwait for historic support, calls for stronger Gulf ties

Lebanon seeks investments, not donations, and that Kuwait has a major role to play in helping restore confidence and development in Lebanon

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said his visit to Kuwait is part of a broader initiative to strengthen ties with Arab, especially Gulf, countries, describing Kuwait as a key partner for Lebanon.

In an interview with Kuwait TV, he emphasized on the goal of revitalizing diplomatic relations, encouraging Kuwaiti investment in Lebanon — particularly in vital sectors like energy, ports, electricity, and the airport — and thanked Kuwait for its historic and ongoing support during Lebanon’s crises.

Aoun made it clear that Lebanon seeks investments, not donations, and that Kuwait has a major role to play in helping restore confidence and development in Lebanon.

He recalled Kuwait’s past contributions, such as reconstruction aid after the 2006 war and the 2022 initiative to mend Lebanese-Gulf relations.

He also highlighted the long-standing presence of the Lebanese community in Kuwait and Lebanon’s early recognition of Kuwaiti independence in 1961.

On political issues, Aoun reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative, the restriction of weapons to the state, and resolving disputes through dialogue, including with the Palestinian Authority. He condemned the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for a swift resolution.

Domestically, Aoun outlined key reform steps including appointing a new central bank governor, initiating dialogue with the IMF and World Bank, pursuing banking reforms, and holding long-overdue municipal elections.

He stressed that Lebanon is reasserting state authority across its territory and working to dismantle illegal arms networks.

He concluded by expressing deep gratitude to Kuwait’s leadership and people, calling Kuwaitis to consider Lebanon their second home and to contribute to its recovery through their presence and investments.
