KEPS calls for protecting environmental heritage, addressing climate issues

The Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) called on Friday for the protection of environmental heritage, collective commitment to ecological protection, as well as accelerating global and national efforts to address climate change and achieve sustainable development.

On occasion of World Environment Day, which falls on June 5th, KEPS Chairwoman Dr. Wijdan Al-Oqab told KUNA that this day reflects the need to promote the transition towards low-emission development and building communities more capable of adapting to climate impacts.

She added that this year’s celebration is an opportunity to ensure a safe and prosperous future for the coming generations in the Arab region, and to spread environmental awareness to tackle environmental challenges, foremost being the loss of biodiversity and pollution.

Al-Oqab pointed out the society’s distinguished contributions in the field of environmental work, with it being the earliest environmental affairs society in the Arab world, as well as contributing to the establishment of some reserves in Kuwait.

The society also presented the ‘Green Schools’ program to raising environmental awareness among school students and established an environmental media base through a series of documentary programs, documenting Kuwait’s wildlife. – Kuna
