Dr S Jaishankar Engages Indian Community in Kuwait

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held an exclusive interaction with members of the Indian community during his official visit to Kuwait, reaffirming the Indian diaspora’s pivotal role in strengthening the enduring partnership between India and Kuwait.
The interactive session brought together representatives of Indian community organizations, business groups, professional associations, and cultural bodies, providing an opportunity for the Minister to brief them on his high-level meetings with Kuwait’s leadership while listening to the concerns and experiences of the community.
The engagement formed an important part of Dr. Jaishankar’s visit, which was aimed at further deepening the strategic partnership between the two friendly nations. His discussions with senior Kuwaiti leaders focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including trade and investment, energy security, technology, healthcare, education, and people-to-people ties.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jaishankar described his meetings with Kuwaiti leaders as constructive and forward-looking, noting that both countries remain committed to expanding cooperation and building on the strong momentum in bilateral relations. He also briefed the community on discussions surrounding regional developments, emphasizing the shared commitment of both nations to dialogue, stability, and peace in the region.
The Minister praised the Indian community for its invaluable contribution to Kuwait’s growth and prosperity, describing the nearly one-million-strong diaspora as a living bridge between the two countries. He acknowledged the dedication of Indian professionals, entrepreneurs, skilled workers, healthcare personnel, teachers, engineers, and business leaders, whose hard work and commitment have earned them respect and recognition across Kuwaiti society.
The interaction also provided community representatives with an opportunity to raise issues affecting Indians living and working in Kuwait. Several participants highlighted the economic impact of the recent regional conflict, explaining how disruptions caused by the war had affected businesses, employment, trade, travel, and the livelihoods of many members of the Indian community.
Representatives also shared their experiences of navigating the challenging period and expressed hope that stability would soon return to the region, enabling businesses and normal economic activity to recover.
Responding to the concerns, Dr. Jaishankar assured the gathering that the Government of India remains committed to the welfare of overseas Indians. He carefully noted the issues raised by community members and assured them that the concerns would be examined upon his return to India, with the Ministry of External Affairs continuing to work closely with the Embassy of India in Kuwait to address matters affecting the diaspora.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the strong bonds between India and Kuwait, with community members expressing appreciation for the Minister’s outreach and his willingness to engage directly with the Indian diaspora. They also welcomed the Government of India’s continued efforts to strengthen bilateral relations while ensuring the welfare and well-being of Indians living abroad.
