Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the ongoing talks with the United States led to agreement on some points, but major differences still exist.
Both sides are still away from final agreement, he said in an interview with Iran’s state-run TV station on Saturday/Sunday night. Tehran insists on meeting certain demands and cannot back down on them. Iran’s policy is based on reciprocity.
It is acceptable for Iran to honor its obligations while the other party fails to do the same, he made clear. Iran must get guarantees of nonrecurrence of the aggression by the US and the Israeli occupation, Ghalibaf, who leads the Iranian negotiating team, stressed.
Iran can never trust the enemy more. If the enemy commits any mistake in the future, the Iranian armed forces are fully prepared to respond, he warned.
Although the talks haven’t disbanded mistrust, they helped both sides to understand each other in a more practical way, he explained. On navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, he said that his country always sought to keep it normal.
