Human rights training program for media professionals launched
The National Institution for Human Rights, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands, aims to develop a strategic action plan to promote human rights culture among society and to strengthen relationships with stakeholders and human rights defenders.

The National Institution for Human Rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain hosted a training program on human rights standards and principles for journalists and media professionals, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The first activities of the training program on human rights standards and principles for journalists and media professionals, organized by the National Institution for Human Rights in Bahrain in cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands accredited to Bahrain, were launched as part of the foundation’s action plan and strategy to promote human rights culture among various segments of society and to strengthen relationships with stakeholders and human rights defenders.
During his speech, Mr. Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Shaer, Vice President of the National Foundation of Human Rights, expressed his gratitude to the participants in the training program organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Netherlands. He highlighted the remarkable progress in human rights in Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He praised the fruitful cooperation with the United Nations and relevant civil society institutions in enhancing the knowledge of journalists and media professionals regarding human rights principles, emphasizing the vital role of media in supporting democracy and freedom of expression.
Mr. Al-Shaer concluded his speech by thanking the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for strengthening cooperation to protect and promote human rights, hoping that the program will contribute to sustainable development in the Kingdom.
H.E. Lawrence Westhoff, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bahrain, expressed his sincere thanks to the National Institution for Human Rights for organizing this training program, which aims to enhance the knowledge of journalists and media professionals about human rights and their effective role in applying these principles during press and media coverage.
The program spans two consecutive days and includes six sessions, featuring Ms. Ishraq bin Al-Zain, Coordinator of the Training and Education Unit at the United Nations Centre for Training and Documentation in the Field of Human Rights for Southwest Asia and the Arab Region; Dr. Ali Hassan Al-Tulaba, Member of the Advisory Council of the Bahrain Observatory for Human Rights Monitoring Association; and Ms. Zahra Habib Al-Mushiqri, Chairman of the Freedoms Committee of the Bahrain Journalists Association.
The sessions will cover the general framework of freedom of opinion and expression from the perspective of international human rights law, international mechanisms to promote it, the role of media in promoting human rights, Bahraini national legislation protecting freedom of opinion and expression, the rights and duties of journalists, legal protections for them, and Bahrain’s role in safeguarding their rights during media coverage, along with regulations governing freedom of opinion and expression and combating hate speech.
