The Criminal Court questioned a 40-year-old defendant accused of forcefully stealing an Egyptian expatriate’s phone, according to Arabic daily Al Rai.
The dramatic incident unfolded in Farwaniya, where the accused allegedly stopped a man on the street, assaulted him, stole his phone, and fled in his vehicle. Just fifteen minutes later, he was caught off guard when a highway patrol began pursuing him and ordered him to stop immediately.
When the accused pulled over at the request of the police, he was shocked to find the victim clinging to the roof of his vehicle. The victim informed the officers that he had held on because the driver had forcibly stolen his phone. Police immediately arrested the suspect and referred him to the competent authorities.
During his appearance before the Criminal Court, the accused interrupted the judge as soon as the charges were about to be read, saying, “That’s not true.” The judge responded, “But I haven’t even stated the charge yet. Listen first, then respond.” The accused repeated, “That’s not true.” Despite this, the judge proceeded to read the charges, to which the accused again insisted, “That’s not true.”
The court adjourned the case and appointed a lawyer to defend the accused, who denied the charges even before hearing them.
