
Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs, Ambassador Sadiq Marafi, affirmed the deepening partnership between Kuwait and the European Union, highlighting growing cooperation in political, security, cultural, and humanitarian areas.
Speaking at the EU Delegation’s Europe Day celebration, Marafi pointed to the recent Gulf-European summit in Brussels and expressed hope that Kuwait will host the next summit and the 29th GCC-EU Ministerial Meeting this October, along with a major economic event.
Marafi highlighted the importance of sustained high-level dialogue, revealing that EU Special Representative for the Gulf, Luigi Di Maio, will visit Kuwait in the coming days, followed by political consultations between senior EU and Kuwaiti officials.
He also reaffirmed the joint commitment to concluding a long-awaited Free Trade Agreement between the EU and GCC — describing it as one of the most strategic goals for both regions.
He underscored the Gulf states’ and Kuwait’s shared goal of finalizing a Free Trade Agreement with the EU as a strategic priority.
Ambassador Marafi, echoed the sentiments of EU Ambassador Anne Koistinen, describing EU-Kuwait relations as “distinguished and steadily growing.” Addressing the reception, Marafi emphasized the expanding scope of cooperation in political, security, cultural, and humanitarian fields.
He cited the success of last year’s Gulf-European summit in Brussels and expressed Kuwait’s readiness to host a follow-up summit in October, along with the anticipated EU-GCC ministerial meeting and economic forum before year’s end.
